Central Community Nursery School is a maintained school with an Enhanced Resource Facility (ERF) that is maintained by the Local Authority (LA), Derby City Council.
At Central we have a fantastic team of qualified staff with a high degree of experience in working with children with a wide range of SEND needs. We also have a high level of experience in working with children of supporting children with complex medical needs. We are well supported by our local authority and health colleagues, such as the Autism Advisory team (STePs), the Educational Psychology Service, Physiotherapy/Occupational Therapy and Speech and Language Therapy Service. We are experienced in specialist techniques such as Attention Autism, Makaton (signing for children at the early stages of communication), PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System), in the use of specialist equipment such as standing frames, Kaye walkers, and in delivering advice set out by our colleagues in health such as physio or speech and language therapy programmes. Mrs Sam Molloy is our Family Worker, she is also able to offer families support and advice (please click here to visit her page for more information)

We work closely with parents, carers and other professionals to guarantee that each child's needs are fully met, providing personalised targets, learning plans and regular reviews to ensure that their progress is outstanding.

We have a large nursery building, all on one level, with a variety of spaces to use, including a sensory room, a ball pool, The Little Stars room and the Yellow room to use for small groups. We are able to use all of our extensive gardens to play and learn, from visiting the chickens to exploring and joining in with Forest School activities in the Woodland Garden. We help to plant, water and grow flowers, fruit and vegetables in the sensory and vegetable gardens, then pick and cook and eat our own food. We ensure every area of learning is provided both indoors and outside.
