Meet the Team

'Parents appreciate the great lengths the school goes to for children with SEND'

Ofsted March 2023

SEND Team

  • We have adapted the Meadows Room to be Autism and Sensory friendly, creating a calmer space with fewer distractions and where a total communication approach can take place. A garden area is currently being developed outside of this room.
  • We have a high level of experience in supporting children with complex medical needs.
  • Children with SEND are able to access all of the Early years Foundation Stage curriculum with support, we have many of our own specialist resources such a braille machine and sensory toys.
  • We loan specialist equipment such as adapted trikes and walking frames from the appropriate service. We are experienced and trained in the use of specialist equipment such as standing frames, Kaye walkers, and in delivering advice set out by our colleagues in health such as physio or speech and language therapy programmes.
  • We are well supported by our local authority and health colleagues, such as the Educational Psychology Service, Physiotherapy/Occupational Therapy and Speech and Language Therapy Service.
  • We are experienced in specialist techniques such as Attention Autism, Makaton (signing for children at the early stages of communication), PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System).
  • Our large purpose built Nursery buildings and our wonderful gardens are all on one level and so are wheelchair accessible.
  • We are able to use all of our extensive gardens to play and learn, we visit the chickens and help to feed them and collect their eggs, we go in the Woodland Garden to explore and join in Forest School activities.  We help to plant, water and grow flowers, fruit and vegetables in the sensory and vegetable garden, then pick them and cook and eat our own food.
  • We have a large garden for playing and learning with grass and soft surface areas, with opportunities for every area of learning provided outside.
